First, I have not tried the new Palomino Blackwing, but, having said that, I feel I must write the following to try to reach the people at Palomino who make them. If you want to recreate the Blackwing, why on earth did you not do so? Apparently the new BW is softer, has several details changed (banding, motto, barrel color for example). You hyped this as the reintroduction of the Blackwing 602. It is nothing of the sort, rather it is just a softer pencil with an approximation of the ferrule and the tradename "Blackwing" stamped on it. To be the Blackwing, it should be exactly the same, in every respect, especially the formulation of the clay/wax/graphite. You get ZERO points for this one, and MINUS several for their price, which would have been justified had they actually been the same pencil.
AS for me, I will probably purchase a dozen of them and also a variety pack of the Palominos and make my own comparison. At least one author who compared the original to the new BW said the Palomino HB was the closest to the original BW pencil. I am really disappointed in Palomino, after all the hype leading up to this huge let-down.

I dont understand you man. Its a new take on an old design. it is the pencil equivalent to the VW Beetle. it has modern performance and finish while bearing a recognizable relation to an older iconic product that is no longer made. I personally prefer the new BW to any other pencil currently available and while its not a clone it is certainly a worthy successor and honorably carries the monicker attached to it. Until now I hadn't found so perfect a pencil for composing on the market. The closest second is in fact the Palomino HB which seems alot like the older BW without the ferule.
OP's quote: "First, I have not tried the new Palomino Blackwing [..]" - now, that's rich!!!
to the OP: have you bought and used it yet?
IM-not so humble-O, the new BW from Palomino is one the best pens i've ever used -whether one says it's not like the old BW, or not.
OP's quote: "You get ZERO points for this one, and MINUS several for their price"
i don't think i want to pay a ridiculous $60 for an old pen when i can have the palomino BW for $1.66....
let us know what you think if you get it.
Here is some feedback from someone who owns both the old BW and the new:
Color: Identical
Ferrel: Identical
Lead: New BW is Softer
Eraser: New one is Black
Imprint: As close to identical as possible on new BW
So the new BW lead is softer, so it's not a Blackwing 603 sorry. How hard is it to mix up several batches of lead until you get it right.
"Half the Pressure Twice the Speed" ? Not if the lead is softer.
The thing that annoys me beyond belief is they sell them in boxes of 12 with Black Erasers.
I ordered the Pink erasers, and wasn't paying attention, they sell the erasers in sets of 10 (not 12) what is this hot dogs and buns? So now I have a box of 12 and 2 have black erasers.
Why not sell them with pink to start with?
Why not sell the pink in sets of 12?
I don't care if the pencil was rainbow colored and had the lettering in Glitter, if the lead was right I'd be happy.
The are Blackwing 603S (S for softer lead)
