JLI invites artists to sample painting techniques as inspired by the visual genre of the Western. Artists will overview the painting of the great skyscapes captured by the 1992 Western classic Unforgiven, as directed by Clint Eastwood. The film won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and Best Director. Artists will work on developing illustration techniques inspired by the "drained, wintry look" of the western. JLI renews its development of talented graphic artist with a return to comic book art. This quarter we will use the artwork of illustrator Jim Lee as reference. Lee is well known for his work with Marvel, DC, and Wildstorm. Artists will work on developing and redeveloping characters using original Jim Lee designs for DC Comics' 52 revamp of their comic universe.

JLI brings tradtional and digital techniques together using the making of maquettes as inspired by the work of the Walt Disney Studios and their library of VILLAINS. Learn the process and materials used to form the head of these popular characters and create new 3D ones of your own. Artists will build wireframes, light weight forms in foil, and visualize with polymer clay.

JLI forwards Manga instruction with Manga Design, a intermediate course for artists versed in the basics of the illustration process. The learning centers around development of self created characters inspired by the manga and anime using the MANGA MATRIX process, drawing the moving form and concluding with an original, illustrated manga page. This quarter we will focus on the illustration and designs inspired by BLEACH. Join us on Wednesdays from 430-530.

JLI welcomes you to our new sculpture basics class format that includes the beginnings of the three dimensional format. This quarter we will look at British humor and the artwork of Aardman Studios, makers of the Creature Comfort series, Wallace and Gromitt, and Chicken Run.
